Help USM honor Archbishop Keleher
The 糖心视频 is seeking to transform its traditional library into a 21st Century Learning space, and name it in honor of a great friend of USM: Archbishop James Keleher.
The Archbishop Keleher Learning Center evolved from a vision of strategically combining the best features of a library and computer lab into a full-serve learning, research, and project space.
The Keleher Learning Center will cultivate participation, collaboration, flexibility, and engagement鈥攚hile its greatest strength lies in the relationships it supports, whether student-to-student, student-to-faculty, student-to-staff, or student-to-information.
A Message from Archbishop James Keleher
鈥淟ibraries have changed, and I think (USM) is going to be a perfect place to do this
new kind of a library鈥攚hich will be very helpful to students.鈥
The Vision
The Keleher Learning Center will be the hub of campus, and serve as the premier place
to meet, talk, and study.
The transformation of this facility has already begun this year鈥攁 precursor of what鈥檚 to come. Thanks to a grant from the Steelcase Foundation, USM converted a portion of the De Paul Library space into an active learning center, leading to considerably increase student engagement and usage of the facility.
But far more work needs to be done. The complete vision includes flexible space for the Student Success office and Academic Resource Center, as well as welcome collaborative spaces like glass-enclosed "Think Tanks" to better serve students.
It鈥檚 not just about building remarkable structures with the most cutting-edge technology; rather, it鈥檚 about empowering and inspiring our students to be tomorrow鈥檚 greatest leaders.
Archbishop Keleher
Archbishop James Keleher is a life-long supporter of Catholic education鈥攁nd to the
many benefits it offers to the intellectual, moral, and spiritual development of students
at every level.
During his tenure at the helm of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, Archbishop Keleher helped nurture the vision of the Catholic Education Foundation in Kansas, which was founded during his term, and has gone on to support generations of Catholic school students.
He has been a great friend to our region鈥檚 Catholic high schools, elementary schools, and institutions of higher learning.
Archbishop Keleher is a frequent guest on the USM campus, where he meets with and enjoys the company of the university鈥檚 deserving students.
A named scholarship has been endowed and funded through his generosity, benefiting USM students with financial need.
"Saint Mary, they allow a lot of kids who otherwise would not be able to afford to
come to a great University to be successful."
