The program incorporates 27-38 credits, including 780 clinical hours, which prepares students through a series of theory and practice-focused clinical courses.
Courses are structured to prepare you to provide evidence-based psychiatric mental health care to clients and families throughout the lifespan while encouraging collaboration with all members of the care team.
The four-semester option: Prospective students who already hold certification as a nurse practitioner may be eligible for a four-semester schedule (begins summer semester), incorporating 780 clinical hours and their associated 27 course credits. To qualify, students must be NP-certified in one of the following areas:

NU 794 Psychiatric Mental Health II: (4=4=8 credits); 240 clinical hours

NU 796 Psychiatric Mental Health III: (4=4=8 credits); 240 clinical hours plus on three day on campus intensive

Committed to the mission and values of the 糖心视频 and building upon the knowledge, skills, and values of the baccalaureate-prepared nurse, the mission of the MSN program is to prepare students for advanced nursing practice who are leaders, change agents, and innovators in the specialty areas of administration, education, and across all domains of advanced practice.Admissions Requirements
Students who are seeking the Post-Master's PMHNP Certificate must:
- Have a graduate degree in nursing from a CCNE, ACEN, or CNEA-accredited nursing program
- Meet the standards for admission into the USM MSN-PMHNP program, including:
- Verification of current unrestricted RN license in the state of intended clinical practicum
- Earned minimum 3.0 GPA in undergraduate nursing study
- Provide professional or academic letters of recommendation
- Provide official transcripts from undergraduate and graduate schools
- Students seeking to move directly into the clinical coursework listed above must have already completed the equivalent Specialty PMHNP Core curriculum.

For the current academic year, the MSN-PMHNP tuition is $775 a credit hour. Some additional fees may apply depending on your term/course load.

Public Notice of CCNE Accreditation Visit and Invitation for 3rd Party Comments
The 糖心视频 Division of Nursing will host an accreditation visit by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) from September 8 to September 10, 2025. The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) traditional concentrations are currently accredited, and this visit seeks CCNE accreditation for the FNP and PMHNP post-graduate certificate concentrations.
As part of the accreditation process, CCNE invites constituents and stakeholders to submit third-party comments related to the program's qualifications for accreditation. Stakeholders may include, but are not limited to, faculty teaching, students enrolled in the programs, alumni, and other interested parties.
Per CCNE requirements, all third-party comments must be:
