Opening Reception 3-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 | Goppert Gallery

(Leavenworth, Kan.)鈥擳he 糖心视频 welcomes a guest art exhibition, "Far-fetched," featuring the work of artist Mark Brosseau in the university's Goppert Gallery, on USM's Leavenworth campus, 4100 South 4th Street.

The opening reception will be from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in the Goppert Gallery. The event is free and open to the public. The show will be on display weekdays through March 8 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Inspired by his love for science (particularly chemistry), Brosseau's work in Far-fetched explores all the unnoticed visual anomalies in nature. The artist has always been fascinated by the interconnectedness of the world and how each element supports another's functionality. From childhood to today, he finds questions with ambiguous answers most interesting and relies on art to express some of the most unexplainable natural phenomena. This exploratory mindset gave life to the creation of his paintings鈥攁n effort to better understand the world and the interworkings of it.

Brosseau explained, "I use painting to ask questions about existence and learn about how I relate to everything around me. The paintings are experiments, and I want them to be simultaneously vast and intimate鈥攅qually fleeting and precious. They are an abstract and physical extension of me exploring my experiences, furthering my understanding of how I exist in space. They function as both the result of asking questions and the impetus for asking more questions."

Originally from Lyndon, Vt., Brosseau is a lecturer at Clemson University in their College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art at Dartmouth College and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania School of Design.

Throughout his career as an artist, Brosseau has been invited to exhibit dozens of solo shows across the country and world, including "Experiential/Spatial" at Straumur International Art Commune in Hafnarfjordur, Iceland. He's also published and co-published numerous works over the past two decades.
