Jubliee Scholarship Helps Rebecca Porter Continue Her Family Legacy
The Lenahan family's story at Saint Mary began in 1962 when Suzanne Lenahan, C’64, the eldest of the siblings, enrolled in what was then Saint Mary College to study home economics. Over the years, her sisters Therese, C’73, Mary Pat, C’70, Julie, C’78, and Joanie, C’78, (my mom) followed in her footsteps and attended Saint Mary as well. Thanks to generous scholarships from donors like yourself, this story is still being written in 2023, as the youngest member of the family (me) is able to attend the ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ, pursuing a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Math, Cybersecurity, and Spanish.
The Jubilee Scholarship has made this possible, covering all of my educational and living expenses for four years and allowing me to become involved in various areas of the school. With the financial freedom that the scholarship provides, I was able to try new things, such as cheerleading, and participate in clubs like STEM Club and Spanish Club. The Honors program has also been a great source of support and growth for me, as have faculty members like Dr. Moore and Dr. Silvey, and my coach Andi Hinson.
Through my experiences at Saint Mary, I have learned the importance of community, respect, excellence, and justice. I am grateful for the strong educational foundation that I have received here, which will help me pursue my dream of obtaining a Master's degree in Atmospheric Sciences. More importantly, the financial assistance that I have received at Saint Mary has allowed my family's story to continue for over 60 years, and I hope that the university can continue to support incoming students in the same way, allowing them to write their own stories of success and growth.
Thank you,
Rebecca Porter, U’25
